Whether you live in Greece or abroad, to buy a property in Greece, you must:
- have or obtain a Vat registration number (VAT)
To obtain a VAT registration number, visit the Department of Administrative and IT Support of a Tax Authority.
- submit to the Tax Office the Property Transfer Tax Return and pay the corresponding tax
As a property purchaser in Greece, you must, before signing the contract, pay the property transfer tax calculated at 3% on the property value. This return is signed by you and the seller and is submitted to the Tax Office of the property’s territorial jurisdiction.
